Talk with an author Dr. Vishal bhadani

1st January

Talk with an author is never ordinary. Authors are famous for using symbolical language. Dr. Vishal Bhadani talk on his collection of short stories entitled "Fictionalay" and its significance in the life of common people. Not only he has read two stories but also given tips to write short stories or any creative work. Writing is very important in our life. If we write everyday then also we can develop our writing skills. I had read three short stories of "Fictionalay" that is "Mara hath ni wat nathi", "Sansai ane Ranjana", "Museum of innocence". All these stories are connected with middle class people.

i) Mara hath ni wat nathi

In this story the writer covers all the basic things but the title itself is challenging. The title is a satire that even the thing is not in control of author still he has highlights all the basic things. He begins to describe or connect the outer things or problems of society with the different part of hands. Like palm, finger, thumb etc. He has connected various part of hand with different things of world wide like Vasco da gama, time, universe, Buddha, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi etc.  In this way he has connected things smartly. This is the way that how writer deals with society symbolically. Therefore this is highly symbolic work.

ii) Museum of Innocence

If we look at the title then we get assumption that the story might be includes some foreigners. The title represent the modern world. English becomes language of Elite society. But the reality is different, the story is totally contrasted with the title. It is about villagers. There is one letter from Istanbul pass to the village. But the letter is in English language and only one boy named Jiglo is able to read English. Sarpanch of Sanosara calls Jiglo to read that letter loudly and to translate it. In this letter Istanbul is asking for Innocent thing for the new "Museum of Innocence". All the Villagers becomes curious that which  innocent thing they will send to Instanbul. When they didn't get answer from anyone then they call Old Kadvi Doshi. Her name is symbolic because she spoke in satire only. She is very intellectual and smartly brings solution to the problem. She said that the Banyan tree is the most innocent than any other thing because from many years people used to sit there and it still without any complaint standing there and giving shadow to all the villagers who used to sit there and talk for hours and hours. The first reason of considering it as innocent is it grows naturally without any help or support. These all reasons which seems silly to us but carries deeper meaning.

Feminism

In this story we can apply feminism theory also because when no one is able to give solution to the problem then the oldest lady of the village very easily brings immediate solution. It can be interpret that the author want to present woman as intellectual who can think outside of Kitchen. Woman if they given chance then they prove themselves as the best advisor also.

In this way two short stories can be interpreted in many ways as possible. The writer's work is to write then it is upon readers that how they interpret as per their own understanding.

Dr. Vishal Bhadani read very significant dream sequence "Gujarat Express". The story is resembling with Chetan Bhagat's One Night @ the Call Centre because  both these stories are based on fantasy.  the writer meet one girl at the compartment of cell and then at last the climate came as if everything they think, talk was a part of dream. The difference is in "Gujarat Express" there is spirit who introduce the story and in Chetan's work it is real man. In this way Gujarat Express is Ghost lore.

Translation

After the introduction of story we have session of translation in which Vishal sir spoke about the job opportunities in the field of translation. Translation is very tough but the greatest work. We had done one task of translating phrase also. Legal translation is best than any other translation. There is joy in translation. Sometimes simple phrase is translated in much joyous way. Some translations are very difficult and we find problem in searching the appropriate word for that, for example the mythological bird "Bharand" which have two faces is difficult to translate in English.

Gandhiji translated 'Improvise' as 'Civilization', which is totally different word. But translation is not about to choose the same word but we can select other word also which suits more than the original.
In this way we get knowledge about translation and things that we have to taken into consideration while translating any work of art.
